Who uses the Big Yellow book any more?

Posted on: Thursday, August 21st, 2008 in: Books, Environment, Simplify

When I need a phone number or address, I let my fingers do the walking. Walking across the keyboard at my computer. The YellowPages, Dex, and every other 5lb. paper doorstop I’ve had in the past 5 years has been a sad waste of paper.
Here’s a great way to stop receiving those outdated recycling nightmares. […]

Oath of Office

In case you haven’t heard, I have accepted a position with the U.S. Army as a civilian employee of ISEC. What I discovered after accepting, and turning in my notice is that I have to legally swear my allegiance to the Government of these United States:
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United […]

The Joy of Bindering

Posted on: Friday, April 25th, 2008 in: Organize, Simplify, Uncategorized

Is “bindering” really a word? Anway, the act of organizing information into plastic, 3 ringed object that sit within arms reach on a shelf is uniquely satisfying.
I have a slightly chaotic work life - multiple ongoing projects of my own plus keeping track of my 3 staff members projects and those of my two commissions. […]

Wearin’ O The Green - on a bed of white!

It’s snowing in Southern AZ! I know many people out there have to scrape and shovel every day but we don’t expect to have to scrape our windshields on St. Patrick’s day 20 miles from the Mexican border! The snow on the mountains is gorgeous, though and I do enjoy that.
My mother-in-law (Grandma Suzie, Aaron’s mom) […]

Consolidation of a sort

Megan and I have decided to combine the two blogs we (ok, mostly I) were running. But I found that I was writing about very personal stuff here, and that was the stuff people read and commented on. Besides, my wife really likes the decor on this blog. Serene and not Herd’s logo has become […]

Some people miss the point

Religion and faith gets all tangled up in the personal desires and public demands. But sometimes we need a reminder what it’s really about.
Chuck Brodsky, a folksinger (that usually specializes in BaseBall songs) gives us a brief history of the Bible in the form of a spoken word poem. I don’t think he’ll mind me […]

Now I pay for the time dialation

Posted on: Thursday, January 17th, 2008 in: Handyman Saturdays, Books

Okay, who sped up all the clocks and keeps ripping days off the calendar? Everything is just flying by lately.
My commute is too short, cause I really want to listen to my current book on CD, Ender’s Shadow.  Card is using lots of long, drawn-out,  and sometimes run-on sentences to express the character’s rapid internal monologue, due […]

Why? Why do I always get sick when I have a test to take?
I take my Microsoft 270 (Windows XP installation and management) tomorrow, and my entire body aches with poor sleep, limited oxygen, and nausea.
Hopefully, I’ll do as well as last time, when I passed the 290 test while suffering from food poisoning.

Monster Repellent!

As a follow-up to Monster!, I thought I’d point out that people keep telling me that two-year-olds are too young to be finding monsters. Great! Except Owen doesn’t agree. Here, I’ll show you-

See? Okay, so he looks like a monster. But he dashed down the hall, and sprayed all the dark corners where monsters might […]

Back to where you left off…

Posted on: Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 in: Gadgets, Simplify

You’ve been banging out that term paper, business plan or book chapter in Microsoft Word for weeks now, and you want to get back into it right where you left off yesterday. After you open the document, hit Shift+F5 to zip straight back to the location of the last change you made. Handy!
