Joe and I understand all too well the loss of a dear pet. They are family. You are all in our thoughts, and may these loving memories of Shelly comfort you.

Shelly was a sweet, lovey cat. When I started dating Megan, Shelly climbed into my gatemouth toolbag, and looked up at me and meowed sweetly, as if to say "I like you. We should keep you."

All through the procedure at the vet, in the car ride out to the country, the burial and wildflower planting I stayed strong and quiet.

But day after day later, when I was alone, the loss would hit me like a tidal wave and I cried.

I know we did all we could for her, and made the right decision at the end. But there's a long-haired, snuggly cat-shaped hole in my heart.

Lord, I'm done learning about loss and mourning now, okay?
