Monster!
So Owen has started finding monsters in our house, usually in dark places, not always at night.
Well, we figured that he picked this up at daycare. But the babysitter says that the only mention of monsters at daycare she has heard is the 3yo, but uses the local Spanish slang for monster. So how Owen picked up the word ‘Monster’, we really don’t know.
We’re trying to enable him to deal with this part of childhood. I have told him he has to show me the monster, or that he should tell the monster to go away. Thus, he stands at the hallway (with one of us still in sight) and points at the imaginary creature (or frightened cat)
“GO WAY, MOSSTUR!”
We may try Monster Repellent as well. You know, Febreeze Air Freshener with a new label made by graphic design dad….

Oh gosh… how to deal with monsters… isn’t there a plethora of kids books with the moral of “deal with monsters” you could read to him? I’m guessing arming him is out of the question…

It really helps with the process if he can draw the monster, and also draw the solution. Empowerment!
