A fellow LEGO hobbiest posted this on his Flickr account as a portable base for a clamp light. If you do model photography, or simply don’t have an edge 1/2″ to 1″ to clamp a light to, an empty CD spindle works great. The price couldn’t be better, the diameter hinders tippage, and it won’t mar your expensive dining room table.

I have a clamp light in my LEGO hobby room that I don’t use because I’ve nowhere to clamp it. I’ll be ejecting all my blank CDs off their spindle for this trick.
